Facilities & Equipment
Architecture students may use a variety of on-campus resources in support of studio and course assignments, as well as for independent projects. Our department provides fully equipped studio facilities for building models as well as a computer lab with a wide variety of design software. Our fabrication equipment is located in our lab and studios and includes a laser cutter, 3D printers, hot foam cutters, and vinyl cutters.
Additionally, there are several spaces on campus that provide access to a variety of fabricating equipment and tools. They include the Barnard Design Center, The Columbia Makerspace, and The Digital Science Center.
All incoming architecture students complete an orientation at the start of the semester and learn how to use the department's computer lab and fabrication equipment. During the year, our Digital Architecture Lab TAs operate our equipment on an appointment basis and assist students with their projects. Additional support and instruction is also available from our studio instructors and TAs.
